Schools awards announced

Schools from Cork and Dublin took the principal awards at the annual Roadstone-sponsored Cumann na mBunscol awards presentation in Dublin over the weekend.

St. Mary’s NS from Rathfarnham won the award for the best ‘large’ school, with Scoil Barra Naofe, Cork in second place and Claregalway third. The corresponding award for the best ‘small’ school went to Glenville, with Carrawholly in Mayo second and St. Vincent’s, Turloughmore third.

The Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hannifin and GAA President Sean Kelly were the guests of honour at the function, hosted by Cumann na mBunscol Chairman Jim O’Reilly.

Hurling Initiative - London; Football Inititaive - Dublin; Handball - Armagh; Camogie centenary awards- Waterford, Armagh, Sligo and Leinster; County Publications - Limerick; Fixtures/Information booket - Antrim; Public Relations - Armagh. Special awards made by the assessors, chaired by Marty Morrissey, were presented to St. Colman’s, Lisburn,Co. Antrim, Down, Galway and St. Declan’s NS in Waterford.
