Had one of those ‘boy, that escalated quickly’ episodes this week.

Scrolling on X while the rain battered the windows for the 756th consecutive day, I came upon a clip from the Off The Ball studio in which the former footballer Eoin Doyle and sports journalist Johnny Ward were lamenting the current spell of atrocious weather, mainly because it meant their kids were cooped up in the house of a Saturday morning rather than out playing sport – soccer, naturally, in the case of Doyle’s kids.
