Like a lot of things in Dingle, the phenomenon that is the Geaneys began around the time of Ryan’s Daughter.
David Geaney from Brosna in the north of the county didn’t play any football himself but when he married an only girl from Dingle called Maureen O’Callaghan that had been teaching in Castleisland, they based themselves in her hometown. Soon they were running her parents’ post office that doubled up as a bar on Strand Street, right across from Paddy Bawn Brosnan’s.
