It’s a quote we come back to often simply because it was brutally honest and partly true. Sixteen years ago, Brendan Cummins admitted there was a mental deficiency in Tipperary hurling.

The county’s current U20 All-Ireland winning manager was a season away from his second All-Ireland medal, nine years after he had obtained his first. Two of the seven times Tipperary lifted the Liam MacCarthy Cup between 1971 and 2019, they were unable to back it up the following season.
