There are too many developing referees rushing to make decisions when taking their time is the best option.

It was as massive a provincial round game as you could get in Limerick on Sunday and Liam Gordon’s policy was “keep it tight”.

That meant him being fussy at times and eight yellow cards was on the high side and there was no shortage of frees. Sometimes, though, you need to strain the rein and it served him well for the most part.
