It would be just Manchester United’s luck if their new manager’s best result on the job turns out to be one that happened before he actually started.

Ruben Amorim’s long goodbye to Sporting took in a 4-1 thumping of Manchester City on Tuesday night, whetting United fans' appetites for what their new man might be capable of if he can avoid sinking into the inevitable Old Trafford managerial quagmire.
