This is going to be uncomfortable, mostly because the topic is heavy and about as far from the Cork senior football championship as this column is willing to stray. The last thing any of us need is a meditation on toxic masculinity in sports. Putting it off, however, is one of the reasons we are so mired in the dirty hole we’ve dug for ourselves, so ignore it we no longer can.

Last week on the oddly popular Barstool Sports podcast Pardon My Take, hosts Dan 'Big Cat' Katz and Eric 'PFT Commenter' Sollenberger gave their take on the biggest story in the NFL right now - Taylor Swift's rumoured relationship with Kansas City’s tight end Travis Kelce. The pair weren’t happy about the distraction they felt the Swift circus brought to games, but more of that anon.
