After heat of Fitzgibbon battle, it’s back to the phoney war

You can’t bate modern technology. On Tuesday evening, I sat down in my living room in west Clare, curled my toes up in front of the fire, and switched on my laptop. UCC were playing DCU in the Fitzgibbon Cup semi-final in Waterford and the quality on show was as hot and sparky as the fire blazing from the open hearth in front of me.

It was savage stuff. The Limerick-Tipperary league game two weeks ago was the standout match of the campaign to date but I’d have ranked the quality and intensity of UCC-DCU as almost double that standard. I know you can’t get a full appreciation of a game when you’re not actually there but it was heroic stuff. Guys were fighting for balls like their lives depended on it.
