Much discussion this last week of Tipperary’s defeat at the hands of Galway in the NHL final, with the size of that losing margin - 16 points - the main issue being raised over and over, writes Michael Moynihan.

Do we expect too much of our All-Ireland champions?

The general conclusion seems to be an adjustment of the rankings for this year’s All-Ireland title, fair enough, but I detected an undercurrent to some of the commentary which, loosely translated, went along the lines of ‘that never happened when Kilkenny were on top’.

Do we expect too much of our All-Ireland champions, though? Is it now necessary not just to win an All-Ireland but to cut a swathe through all comers like a Genghis Khan when defending that title?
