All week, I had wondered about the condition of the course — the strategy that the players would adopt. I knew that it was playing soft but at no point did I ever imagine conditions that would afford the players the amount of control that I witnessed throughout the day.

Right from the off yesterday morning it was a birdie feast as players plundered a largely defenseless front nine holes thanks to almost redundant bunkers, a gently favourable breeze and soft receptive greens.
