Shorten claims victory over Callanan in Billy Molloy Cup

John Shorten beat Wayne Callanan by almost a bowl in the Billy Molloy Cup at Whitechurch. 

He opened with a very short shot, which Callanan beat by 120m. Shorten then got three great bowls to the top of the hill, where he took the lead. Callanan’s next bowl caught the right and Shorten increased his lead with a good bowl to the wall. He built on that to Boula lane.

Callanan cut the odds with his next shot and fought back to level after three great throws to the top of the straight. Shorten was fore there and led 15m after the shots to the farm. Callanan’s next caught the left and Shorten eased clear with a good bowl to the Devil’s bend. He held his odds in the next two to the end of the wall. Callanan then missed the line and it was over.
