A few weeks ago our club, Watty Graham’s Glen, received a request from the St Vincent’s club in Dublin.

The mighty Marino men were taking one of their underage teams to Derry for the weekend and their manager was eager to play us in a challenge match.

Our chairman — a decent, obliging sort — was keen to comply with the request. Our manager wasn’t so receptive to the idea. The proposed date, a Saturday morning, didn’t suit a lot of our players.
