John Donnellan beat Tom Browne by almost a bowl of odds in the William Wolfe Memorial trophy at the Waterloo revival festival on Sunday.

On Saturday he won the first of the three-hand semi-finals, in which he beat both Liam Scannell and Danny Flood by a bowl of odds. Tom Browne beat Johnny Byrnes and Gearóid Spillane in his semi-final.

Sunday’s final was a cliffhanger until Browne’s bowl to the no-play line hit a road sign and missed the line by a few centimetres. That virtually guarantied Donnellan victory.
