Young leaves it late in Drinagh

John Young got the most significant win so far in the Junior A championship when he beat Jerry Gibbons in the last shot of an enthralling contest at Drinagh on Monday.

Young leaves it late in Drinagh

They were level after two each to sight and Young just edged the third tip. Gibbons got a decisive break with his next shot, which took him to the point of the bend at the waterfall. Young’s reply got caught at the top of the hill so there was almost a bowl between them after his next throw.

Gibbons made the point of the bend before the black stick with his next. Young looked to have a chance to level but he missed that tip to concede a full bowl. After Gibbons’ perfect loft at the black stick he pushed his lead to virtually two bowls at Shandrum cross. Young kept the lead under two bowls in the next two shots towards the church. Gibbons then misplayed his next shot and the lead was back to a bowl of odds.
