Time for a Gaelic football transfer market
Thankfully, Galway’s enterprise in Hyde Park allowed us some small respite from the handpass-wringing. But we also, midweek, cottoned onto the one glaring solution that could make all of this grousing go away.
A transfer market.
It was, of course, Seanie that gave us the idea. Poor old Seanie and his saga. Like a footballing version of the Vita Cortex lads, only he, notionally anyway, has to sit in and wait in Straffan.
But think of the debate, speculation, rumour and newsprint the whole sorry business has generated. And what is the one thing people aren’t doing while they are debating, speculating, rumour-mongering and printing; that’s right… giving out about Gaelic football. Well, at least not the way it’s played anyway.
It’s probably the one blessed release that saves soccer from a year-round parade of lamentation; the exhilarating thrill of transfer speculation. Who might we sign to lift the gloom? Never mind the quality, think of the possibilities.
Alright, a Gaelic football transfer market might wreck the very fabric of the game. But would that, in the end, be a small price to pay? Throw the window open and let’s have a look.
