Zoom inon Zariyna

ZARIYNA can get us away to the perfect start by landing the opening one mile Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Fillies Maiden at Dundalk tonight.

Zoom inon Zariyna

The once-raced daughter of Marju made her debut on this track in November, performing with distinct promise.

She went off an unconsidered 33-1 shot and was the second string of Michael Halford’s two runners.

Zariyna actually beat the other Halford runner, Hassaya, partnered by Johnny Murtagh, by a head, the pair finishing fifth and sixth respectively behind 50-1 winner, Capeslew.

The form has been working out reasonably well. The second then, Alkazim, is a smart horse and the third, Croi An Oir, scored subsequently.

Murtagh now takes over in the plate and if the market speaks positively then Zariyna can deliver.

Another who is once-raced, Aidan O’Brien’s Betterbetterbetter, has to get the vote in the ten furlongs plus Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Fillies Maiden.

She is by Galileo and was light in the market when runner-up behind Dermot Weld’s heavily-backed favourite, Princess Highway, at Leopardstown last month.

The final verdict was a length and three parts, after Betterbetterbetter tried to make all of the running. She battled strongly when headed and, with O’Brien’s horses now starting to hit top gear, cannot be opposed.

Northgate is a fascinating challenger, under top weight, for the dundalkstadium.com Handicap.

He makes a quick reappearance, having finished a creditable third behind the ultra-smart pair, Famous Name and Sharestan, over a mile at Leopardstown on Sunday.

The seven-year-old goes up 3lbs in the future, stays a mile and a half and may prove capable of defying his welter burden.

Samollie, who came home nicely when scoring here on Friday night, is fancied to shrug off a 5lbs penalty in the Dundalk Stadium Handicap.
