Sic transit gloria mundi. Not in Kerry, apparently. In cantering to a semi-final, Jack O’Connor and his Goochless Kerry again made a mockery of the ‘team in transition’ tag which some have labelled them since their listless quarter-final defeat by Down in 2010.

O’Connor has always relished the chance to indulge his flair for turning conventional wisdom on its head. He did it last year with Bryan Sheehan and Anthony Maher who, despite early misgivings, are becoming the country’s marquee midfield partnership.
