This week what a brilliant FAI Cup final; Campaign to sack Mancini; Hughes was sacked for less; Best luck to Giles; Tommy Smith and Giles cracking story; Chelsea fans expect too much; What did Ambramovich achieve in sacking Wilkins; Welcome back Welbeck; Pool’s revival didn’t last long; Comolli’s track record isn’t good; A lot of deadwood at Anfield; Penalties should have been awarded.

WHAT A brilliant FAI Cup final last Sunday! Such was the all-out commitment by both sides that I just could not take my eyes of the screen and was afraid of missing out on something if going to the kitchen to put on the kettle. The attendance was another pleasant surprise. In comparison to some of the matches involving some many over-hyped prats across the water, the sportsmanship was of a high standard. I wonder how many of the ‘we’ brigade who slavishly support British teams saw this fine advertisement for football.
Agreed, it was a great day for the domestic game but it doesn’t have to be an either/or situation with regard to which league gets the Irish football fan’s support. The TV is in the corner and the ground is just down the road. You can keep it global and local, you know.
