The daughter of Danehill won a Listed event on this track last time, cruising home five and a half lengths clear, and a similar display can now be expected.
Aidan O’Brien’s Alexander Pope looks best in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden. Another Danehill Dancer, he began by finishing a somewhat remote third behind two of his stable companions, Jackaroo and Eskimo, at Gowran Park in early May.
The selection reappeared at Galway last week, finishing three parts of a length and the same third behind Robin Hood, also trained at Ballydoyle, and Tashqeel. He can improve a bundle and should confirm placings with A Word Apart, who finished sixth in that Galway contest.
O’Brien can also win the Alabama 3 Maiden with Amber Grey, who is making a belated seasonal debut.
He showed plenty as a juvenile, rounding off with a promising fourth to Don Carlos at Leopardstown in October.
Amber Grey’s fitness has to be taken on trust, but he could well be a lead horse and may strip as fit as a flea!
At Sligo this evening, Tom Hogan’s Mount Helicon gets the nap in the www.countysligoraces.com Maiden Hurdle.
He lost his way when trained in England by Alan King, but has been more than revitalised by Hogan.
Mount Helicon started with a solid effort behind Alpine Eagle at Killarney and did even better at Galway last week, producing a gallant effort, under top weight, when going down by a length and a quarter to Admiral Barry in a valuable two mile flat handicap.
