Nine times out of ten the referee would have blown for a free in the dying seconds of extra-time to help equalise matters, when the chance presented itself on Sunday in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

But giving teams a chance to equalise in injury time of extra time in a replay is no longer the desired outcome where fixtures are at a premium in the modern championship and club activity must also be accommodated.
