No need for Nemo to face sanction
Strictly speaking Nemo’s act of generosity and understanding was contrary to rule on the usage of GAA facilities but in the circumstances it was understandable. After all isn’t it said that there is an exception to every rule. Well this was the exception.
It was surprising, indeed somewhat churlish for Croke Park to be singling out Nemo for special mention especially as HQ mentioned that other clubs – unnamed – had been in breach of rules as well.
Nemo officials weren’t slow in pointing this out and that may have caused the cold feet at the top level. Passing the buck back to the Cork county board hardly smacks of either conviction or determination on Croke Park’s part. Cork GAA chiefs are hardly going to hang one of their own especially as they didn’t initiate the calls for discipline in the first place. It may just all fizzle out as Nemo go about their daily business of training their many teams. We should celebrate Nemo’s achievements and give thanks for their initiative and generosity and not condemn them for an exceptional act of sportsmanship.
