This week Well to Steve McClaren and FC Twente; Chelsea or Gary Neville; Thanks for the memories Rafa; Rafa has spent £250m on 77 players in six years; Abramovich plays a blinder; United pay penalty for not replacing Ronaldo and Tevez; Berbatov should he go or should he stay; Barcelona’s spiteful groundsmen; City will spend big again; Hodgson is great; Everton do well along with Wolves.

The Letter of the Week goes to Eoin Moore, Clare. Get in touch with your postal address and our magnificent prize will be winging its way to you before you know it.

WELL DONE to Steve McClaren for his title with FC Twente and for shaking off the memory of his “wally with the brolly” era with England, and his brief flirtation with a Val der Valk accent, for sure. Another good man who has recovered from a savaging by England’s victim-hunting media, just like Bobby Robson did 14 years ago at Porto. He said it was a reward for everything he and his family have been through. Why would he ever go back to England?

OUR SHOUT: Even in this season of unpredictability, surely nobody foresaw the emergence of the Steve McClaren fan club. Always nice to see the witchhunters get a poke in the eye. Especially with a brolly.
