Henry charade just another FIFA farce
It took the FIFA Disciplinary Committee two months to organise a meeting and, when they finally got around the table, they made their inevitable decision not to punish Thierry Henry for his hand-ball against the Republic. Did you really expect anything else?
Unfortunately, they claim, there was nothing they could do – “handling the ball cannot be regarded as a serious infringement as stipulated in article 77a of the FIFA disciplinary code”. Yes, we knew that. So did they before they sat down. And we knew, too, that Sepp Blatter’s typical publicity-seeking remarks following the incident about “blatant unfair play” didn’t amount to a row of beans.
