Point-to-Point series launched
The launch, at Cork Racecourse was attended by local trainers, jockeys and members of the point to point associations. Frank Hayes, chairman of Cork-Waterford Point to Point Association, expressed his delight with the initiative, adding that it was welcome and timely in the difficult economic conditions.
Sixteen qualifier races are taking place at various point to point venues across Cork, Limerick and Tipperary finishing at Liscarroll on March 28.
The Pegus Point to Point Series Final, at Cork Racecourse on Easter Monday April 5, is for 5 and 6 year old geldings from the qualifier series and is a 2 ½ mile INH flat race with prize money of €9,500.
The card for the final on Easter Monday is no ordinary one, featuring four point to point races, one of which is the Pegus Horse Feed Series Final. This represents a first for Cork Racecourse. Michael O Neill, Manager Cork Racecourse, said it was sure to generate huge interest from the point to point and national hunt enthusiasts.
