LISTOWEL has been given the green light to begin their seven-day Festival on Sunday.

Drying-out Listowel gets the go-ahead

The track, which was unfit for racing earlier in the week, was inspected yesterday by Turf Club senior inspector of courses, Val O’Connell. The decision was made that, while the ground remains heavy, the track is drying out rapidly and the likelihood is that it will be soft come Sunday.

Both Sunday and Monday will be all National Hunt programmes, while the emphasis on Tuesday will now be totally on the flat.

Local bookmaker, and a director at Listowel, Eric Browne, said: “The situation has improved dramatically over the last few days and don’t be surprised if we have to water by Wednesday!’
