Longer trip to suit Lillie

LILLIE LANGTRY is the nap choice to land what promises to be an informative Group 2 Debutante Stakes at Leopardstown tonight.

The daughter of Danehill Dancer is one of three declared by Aidan O’Brien and, hopefully, they will all meet the engagement!

The selection has been rested since finishing a length and a quarter second behind Habaayib in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, but the fact she is due to be partnered by Johnny Murtagh would indicate is fit and ready to do herself justice.

Impressive when getting off the mark in a Group 3 at Naas, Lillie Langtry ran a cracker at Ascot, staying on strongly at the end of six furlongs. She steps up another furlong now and that should be very much to her advantage.

O’Brien holds all the aces, because Devoted To You, who bolted in at Galway last week, and Famous, an easy winner on this track, are smart fillies.

But Lillie Langtry seems to have a particularly good attitude and gets a reasonably confident vote.

O’Brien and Murtagh can team up with the mildly frustrating Beethoven to win the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden.

He should appreciate dropping into this company, having finished fourth to stable companion, Alfred Nobel, in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh last time.

Smart hurdler Won In The Dark, bogged down by soft ground and having to hump 10-5 when no match for Anak at Ballinrobe, can go close in the Silverpark Handicap.

Tony McCoy will be a welcome visitor to Sligo this evening, where he can guide Glenstal Abbey to success in the Martin Reilly BMW Dealer Novice Hurdle.

A proven mud-lark, Charlie Swan’s charge arrives on the back of a solid effort behind Dual Gales at Galway.
