Angry Fans

The Examiner’s football correspondent Liam Mackey likes a good argument when he hears it, and he’s got strong views of his own. Today, and every Tuesday, he will be acting as referee on your opinions on the Premiership.

Angry Fans

Let him know what you think and he’ll argue the toss with you. We’ll be offering a free sports prize to the star contribution each week. This week Liam is accused of backtracking on sacking of Staunton; time for debate on All Ireland side; Why Souness should be next Irish manager; Jol’s sacking still subject of debate; Kelly’s anti Everton article; Arsenal not the finished article; and Cork Blue takes issue with Anderson.

Letter of the week goes to serial winner Mike from Cork. Could we have an address please and our glittering prize will be winging its way to you as soon as possible.

LIAM, I had to laugh at your backtracking with regards to Steve Staunton. You say you didn’t stand by him “for reasons of ignorance or stubborn eccentricity“, no, you stood by him so you could say, if by some miracle it ever worked out, that you were the one who kept his head when everyone else had lost theirs. Are you going to give yourself a red card for that?

Results and shocking performances aside people shouldn’t forget the capping of Joe Lapira as another shocking mistake by the manager. Lapira must have been in hot form for his college that semester but going on that logic surely the top scorer in last year’s Collingwood Cup feels hard done by.

The decision to cap Lapira was an affront to everyone who’s ever worn the green jersey, all those Irish players plying their trade in the lower leagues in Britain and the eircom League. Now that’s a sackable offence.
