An hour after Meath hammered Kerry in the 2001 All-Ireland semi-final, John McDermott was walking out of Croke Park alongside five of his team-mates when he turned and made a comment that proved to be extremely prescient. “That is actually going to do Meath more harm than it will Kerry,” said McDermott.
