Some people reading this might find it strange, when I have been critical of him in the past, but I think Johnny Murphy is the most improved referee in the game over the last two seasons. And yet I think the decision to appoint Johnny for Saturday’s league final is wrong.
Nothing to do with Johnny — more the tricky situation the GAA have put him in. It puts pressure on Johnny that he doesn’t need around situations with Clare players, given that Johnny’s county — Limerick — face the Banner in two weeks.
