At the outset of this league campaign, when everyone accepted and acknowledged that the competition would be far more competitive than in recent years, I wondered to myself if the final round of matches could finally somehow mirror the last round of the football league every season.

Most of the time, that mad scramble during Round 7 resembles a game of snakes and ladders, with teams jumping up and sliding down the table for fun. It’s often so dramatic that the only thing missing from the drama is Jeff Stelling and his band of pundits from Sky Sports Saturday trying to capture it all.
