The name Lagile Lodge mightn’t get the bells ringing, but just mention the address — Killeagh — and there’d be near-instant recognition, and a measure of affection too, thanks to a certain massive hit song.

The 2024 ballad Killeagh about belonging and the GAA by the band Kingfishr stormed music charts at home and abroad, got more than 27m streams, a follow- up album topped Ireland’s charts and saw the band headlining major and multiple music festivals over the past 18 months.

Still off the radar is Lagile Lodge, a substantial detached 2,165sq ft four-bed home set back off the N25 Youghal road leaving the picturesque East Cork village, near the River Dissour.

Set on the bones of an acre, with an orchard, glasshouse, and small stable block with three boxes, at the end of a cul de sac lane with a leafy approach avenue past three or four more contemporary one-offs, the home was built in 1991, just four years before Killeagh GAA club’s promotion in ’95 — an achievement celebrated, yes, in sing-along verse by hundreds of thousands of Killeagh adoptive fans three decades on.

Designed to a Victorian lodge look, with brick paved drive and a covered tiled porch entrance in contrast to a south east facing sun room under ornate fascias, Lagile Lodge overlooks lovely mature gardens of around three-quarters of an acre.

Selling Lagile Lodge is agent Adrianna Hegarty, who guides the very well-kept, 35-year-old family-friendly home with four en suite bedrooms, at €695,000: she notes that it has been “meticulously maintained, on mature landscaped gardens with exceptional outdoor facilities”.

Those facilities include a large double-height garage, three block-built stables, with small yard, paddock, and orchard, all within a few minutes walk of the village, past the Old Thatch bar/restaurant, and near Glenbower Woods.

VERDICT: There are so many elements to Lagile Lodge and its location that its selling agent might well argue that it is going for a song.
