THE flurry of activity around No 5 Westview will surprise no-one given its very pretty interiors and city-edge walkability.

The location speaks for itself. You can access the South Link in seconds as the terraced townhouse is at the city end of Boreenmanna Rd.

More country cottage than urban townhouse once you cross the threshold, its current owner can take credit for the great shape that the two-bed is in.

“We did a good bit of internal work,” she says, in the wake of buying No 5 in 2017.

Original pine shutters — a feature that drew her to the house in the first place — were retained and pinned back. Her builder/carpenter/general handyman, John Buckley from East Cork, added wooden panels beneath the windowsills.

It’s a job well done, and it ties in nicely with the plantation shutters fitted by the owner.

She did plenty more besides, including building a fireplace around a feature electric fire in the sitting room to create a focal point.

A solid fuel stove set against stone trim in the living/dining room (same trim was used on the house facade) was there when she moved in.

Flooring and skirting boards were replaced, and the builder raised the door frames so that taller doors could be fitted to compliment the high ceilings.

There were improvements to the kitchen too, with a Belfast sink added and a new shelving unit by Mr Buckley.

An adjoining utility was made more user-friendly, and the bathroom was remodeled to accommodate a larger shower unit.

It took a while longer to spruce up the rear outdoor area, but the neighbourhood had plenty of green space to enjoy during the pandemic (Marina Park and Tramore Valley Park are a five-/10-minute spin away). Once restrictions eased, the owner set about transforming her own outdoor space.

“I got a chap in to put down a patio and he built raised planters too,” she says.

It’s a smashing space: Bright, colourful, enclosed, low maintenance, with a prized south-west facing aspect. At one point, houses on Westview had front gardens too, but they were surrendered to a compulsory purchase order, when Boreenmanna Rd was first widened in the 1980s.

Life has changed considerably for the owner of No 5 in the nine years since she bought the 73sq m home. The household has grown and more room is required. John Barry, of Frank V Murphy auctioneers, is handling the sale, and had 20 parties booked into view within hours of the property going live.

He says the house is in “excellent condition”.

“Moreover, the location is a winner: Very convenient to Cork city centre, Ballinlough, Douglas, Marina Market, Marina Promenade, South Link Road etc.”

Parking is on street or at the end of the terrace.

The guide price is €315,000.

VERDICT: A delightful starter home in a stellar location.
