Oftentimes, it's downsizers who are first out to view affordable bungalows but this one at 53 Ros Ard in Upper Glanmire but most of the early viewings this week have been with single buyers.

That’s according to Michael Downey of ERA Downey McCarthy who says the 2006-built two bed -bungalow, with its €295,000 guide price, makes an attractive alternative to an apartment for a range of buyers.

Accommodation in the 65 sq metre property includes an open plan kitchen/dining /living space with timber flooring, alcove shelving, a fireplace with a stove and a kitchenette with white shaker style units. There’s also a bathroom and two timber floored bedrooms with built-in wardrobes. Mr Downey says a new owner might look at the option of converting the attic space.

Patio doors in the living area open onto a part gravel, part concrete garden area at the side. Across from the bungalow there's a communal parking area.

Mr Downey says the property is very well presented having been bought and repainted just a year ago by an owner who is relocating for work.

The Ros Ard development in Upper Glanmire, Whites Cross is located around six km from Glanmire village and 7.5 km from Patrick Street in the city centre.

The Property Price Register shows No 53 selling for €275,000 in September 2025 and prior to that for €202,000 in 2020.

VERDICT: Small, but detached, modern and affordable – it offers more privacy than an apartment.

A young buyer looking to get a foot on the property market in the Douglas area might want to view this second floor apartment at 22 An Radharc in Maryborough Ridge.

Guiding at €335,000, it’s a two- bed property which has a glass balustraded balcony at both the front and the side. Karl O’Reilly of Savills says the 2008 built apartment, an ex-rental which has a B2 BER. is both well maintained and well located.

The main living space is a kitchen/dining/living room which has laminate flooring and an electric fire as well a kitchenette with snazzy red gloss units. There’s also a bathroom and two carpet floored bedrooms including one en suite. A patio door in the living area provides access to the wrap-around balcony which has views out across Douglas and also overlooks a green area.

“ The south west and east west facing decked balcony is a standout feature “ says Mr O’Reilly noting that the apartment comes with a designated parking space.

Pointing out that the property has lift access and is easy to maintain, he says he expects it to attract downsizers as well as young buyers.

An Radharc, a 61 unit development with two apartment blocks and a terrace of nine houses, is located a little over two km from the Fingerpost Roundabout in Douglas village.

The most recent sale in An Radharc was of no 54, a mid-terrace house which sold for €440,000 in July. The most recent sale of an apartment there seems to be that of No 24, which sold for €324,500 last October.
