CALL it a fluke, call it an inspired choice, but don’t you just love it that a house named St Valentine’s is directly across the road from what was Lovett’s restaurant?

But while the once popular eaterie off the Well Road ceased trading almost 20 years ago, and now has a series of corporate apartments in its back yard, the house named after the patron saint of sweethearts is about to embark on a relationship with new owners.

Shooting off estate agent arrows with a view to showcasing St Valentine’s charms is Stuart O’Grady of Sherry FitzGerald who doesn’t expect it to be on the market for long.

“It’s a charming property, on a good size site, and in a great location, just off the Well Road, near Douglas, with a wealth of amenities on the doorstep, including Douglas village, schools, tennis clubs, Cork Constitution Rugby Club, Páirc Uí Chaoimh, the Marina – and all within walking distance,” Mr O’Grady says.

New owners will probably update St Valentine’s decor, but other than that, it’s good to go. Original timber flooring looks healthy and the kitchen/dining room has already been extended, albeit new owners could do more as there’s plenty of room to the rear.

A 13 sq m detached garage could be put to other use too.

Mr O’Grady expects Corkonians relocating back from Dublin to be among the potential suitors for St Valentine’s, possibly people originally from the area who are aware of the location’s benefits.

“We are seeing some downsizers from the area too, who want a smaller property but want to remain close to Douglas and the Well Road,” Mr O’Grady says.

Better-off first time buyers are expected too.

St Valentine’s, a 112 sq m three-bedroom semi, has a west-facing rear garden shielded on all sides by impenetrable hedging. There’s a small patio area which could be improved.

VERDICT: Buyers will be seduced by the location.
