Slow cookers retain something of a 1970s vibe and mishandled they are responsible for a million grey stews, faint, greasy chickens and pert, sour potato dishes. 

It’s a shame that they still stew such prejudice, as used well they are the ultimate comeback for the question dreaded by every rumpled, exhausted office worker, clinging to the last shreds of sanity at 6pm. I’m not going to even say it. It’s a cruel trigger.
