How to source a vintage desk for your home office
You may be surprised just what great value a well-loved original vintage desk can be. File picture
A few short years ago, we were pining over desks snipped from the tips of early aeroplane wings, and sneakily un-boxing dodgy 1950s icons factory-made in China. Since then, our mid-century madness has calmed if not cooled. We’ve realised just how much the style of the 1940s to the 1980s varies and competes across country and designer, and that most outright reproduction is cheaply made, easily spotted and unsustainable. Secondhand, you cannot give these shoddy ghouls away.
When buying new, a working desk is an investment. Start at a top-class office supply for something serious, modern, ergonomic and robust.
