What's new: Three buys to brighten up our living spaces

PINK POWER

Paint is the quickest and least expensive way to transform a room, according to designers both in its appearance and in terms of how we feel in the space.

Ahead of Valentine's Day, I'm thinking pink, pink, and more pink.

If you want a sophisticated take on the shade, consider Terra Rosa, a deep rose with a touch of terracotta, from Kraftsmann Paints.

The company's designer Carla Benedetti says the colour “exudes confidence, creativity and cosiness”.

We’ll have some of that, please.

Terra Rosa DE5096 can work both as a neutral background or as an accent colour, according to Carla, who believes it adds "equal parts prettiness and drama”. “It acts as a refreshing neutral update to browns and burgundies,” she says.

It’s one of an extensive collection of 2,000 colours from Kraftsmann Paint, an environmentally-conscious Irish paint company that supplies its range of 100% water-based, low-VOC paints from sustainable US paint manufacturer Dunn-Edwards.

All paint is shipped using a proprietary non-spill, no-leak technology to ensure paint arrives at your door exactly just as it was packaged at its store.

Kraftsmann offers a next-day delivery service anywhere in Ireland from its website or you can visit its showroom in Fashion City, where it “particularly welcomes members of the Interiors Association”.

FRENCH CONNECTION

Although we might still have a while to wait for the next instalment of Emily in Paris, the Savoir look is the perfect way to welcome spring.

Characterised by traditional elegance, paired with contemporary touches and considered colour combinations, this trend transports us straight to the chic interiors of Parisian studio apartments.

To achieve this distinctive, light-hearted look, keep the feel of the space light and bright.

Wooden floors and pale walls provide the perfect backdrop for bolder shades in furnishings, with blue tones contrasting with reds or pinks to provide an uplifting pop of colour.

Elevate the look and add a contemporary edge by introducing finishes such as matte-black metal, wood, marble, and brushed gold.

Finally, add a sprinkling of quirky accessories, such as art or lamps that are reminiscent of Parisian flea market finds.

The overall effect is one of subtle, elegant glamour, which works just as well in a bedroom as it does in a living space. Embrace the aesthetic in the living room by contrasting the classic and contemporary, mixing vintage finds with new designs and setting rich colours against clean monochrome.

The deep blue of the DFS Mya sofa provides a contrasting colour for ultimate sophistication, while its boxy silhouette and button detailing suit a traditional drawing room theme.
