Art, antiques and jewellery to draw the crowds, says Des O’Sullivan

Munster collectors can choose between a big fair in Limerick and an auction at Hegarty’s in Bandon this weekend. In fact, real enthusiasts can cover both as the National Antiques Art and Vintage Fair at the South Court Hotel takes place over the two days while Hegarty’s sale in Bandon kicks off at 3pm tomorrow.

The fair, held three times a year in March, June and November, is the largest in the country and a real crowd-puller with people from many parts of the country.

It offers something for everyone at all price levels across a range of antique furniture, jewellery, silver, art, porcelain, clocks, books and vintage and costume jewellery.

Opening times are from 11am to 6pm today and tomorrow.

Meantime viewing is underway in Bandon for Hegarty’s auction at 3pm tomorrow. Jewellery has become a popular feature at these West Cork auctions and among the lots on offer tomorrow are a Burmese sapphire and diamond cluster ring (€6,600-€7,000) and an emerald and diamond cluster ring with a price tag of €3,000-€4,000.

Antique furniture includes a William IV library table and a French secretaire chest.

There is also some mid-century modern furniture and work by artists including Pauline Bewick, Marie Carroll, Basil Spackman and Colette Mills.
