The Irish landscape is the inspiration for superstar quilter Kaffe Fassett’s latest collection of designs. I wish I could be crafty — the first thing I’d do is make something from this book. Quilts in Ireland (€30, Taunton) includes instructions for 20 quilts that crafters can make at home, all of which have been photographed on location in and around Cork. Ikea’s concept of Sustainable Futures is an interesting one. It treads the line between man-made and natural materials, including new hybrids which are environmentally and socially responsible in design. Agnieszka Wojcik, interior design specialist at IKEA UK & Ireland tell us, “The Sustainable Futures trend follows the theme that people are wanting to make smaller changes in their lives to make a big difference. Designing for the future and choosing the right material is an important first step. It ensures that the fibres can be separated out at the end of a products life and recycled so they can be used again in production such as such as the ODGER chair which boasts a rounded shell moulded from 70% recycled plastic and 30% renewable wood bringing this trend into the home.” Every little helps. This is the Ikea Odger chair, €75.
