Look out for fungal leaf infection on winter favourite Mahonia

Peter Dowdall gives great praise to this scented winter lovely, saying it makes a great seaside hedge, but he bemoans the fact that it’s very prone to fungal infection.

It’s hard to imagine the winter months in our gardens without the striking yellow blooms of Mahonia ‘Charity’ or Mahonia ‘Winter Sun’.

Long racemes of golden flowers produced over evergreen spiky foliage, catch the rays of the low winter sun and reflect the light like a beacon in the winter garden.
