Your guide to winter pruning in the garden

If you enjoyed a healthy crop of apples this year, or if you have planted some new trees and are looking forward to apples fresh from the trees in years to come, then make sure you do some winter pruning now.

Your guide to winter pruning in the garden

Quite simple and straightforward to do, pruning is not rocket science and primarily you need to remove any crossing branches that might be rubbing against each other, as this will lead to infection entering through the wounds on the bark.

Also, try to make sure the tree has a good open centre to allow good air circulation and as a result, it will be less likely to suffer from fungal problems.
