This autumn’s palette is going soft on green

THERE’S a nip in the air, but can we complain when we’ve had yet another beautiful summer? We do, however, have to start thinking about battening down the hatches and what needs to be done to the house before fire-lighting season begins.

This autumn’s palette is going soft on green

It’s now almost September, when pastels will be a little too cold and we veer towards the warm rusts and wines of autumn as a response to the chill breezes that cool down even the sunniest days, when darkness falls early.

But this year it’s all change in the colour charts with not a hint of wine tones or cosy autumnal russets. Instead, strong green dominates the colour palette, making a subtle transition in the last year from one with a yellowish character to one that is somewhere between blue and green teal, darkening all the way to a rich spruce. It’s balanced, tranquil and calming but there’s warmth and drama in it too.
