Garden Notes
* Cobh Flower and Horticulture Club will hold their next meeting in Cobh Community Centre on Monday, June 9 at 8pm. It will be a work night in preparation for the Flower Festival to be held in September. Please bring your secateurs. The Cobh Flower Festival will attract anyone who has an interest in plant material and gardening, especially as it is being held following the World Show in the RDS in Dublin. This spectacular event is sponsored by a number of local industries and hotels as well as the Cobh Credit Union, town council and the Port of Cork Company.
* A garden evening at the home of Margaret and Gerard Ahern, Aherlamore, Aherla, is being held to support the Kelvin Ahern Benefit Fund on Saturday, June 7. The event is open from 2pm — 6pm with plant sale and raffle on the day. Live music from 4pm — 6pm. Refreshments served. Entry fee €5. For further details contact Margaret 087-7987775.
* Ballincollig Flower & Garden Club will hold its June meeting on Monday, June 9, in Oriel House Hotel, Ballincollig. A garden talk by Mary McCrum, Ballinhassig, on the theme: “Colour in the Garden” will start at 8pm. The staging of flower arrangements and horticulture competition entries is to be completed by 7.50pm as per schedule. Early arrivers will benefit from a teaching flower arrangement demonstration to be given by Margaret Ahern AOIFA. Gardeners and non-members welcome. Admission €5 euro.
* East Cork Flower Club are holding a teaching demonstration: “Inspired by Nature” with Ann Cooney AOIFA on Monday, June, 9 at 8pm in St. John the Baptist National School, Midleton. Also on the night a members’ exhibit “Roses to Charm and Delight: 30”.
* Norah Roche will open her garden at Valkasa House, Annabella, Mallow, on June 14 from 2 — 6pm in aid of The Belarussian Orphanage Project. Directions will be signposted from the Cork Roundabout in Mallow.
* An Open Garden, Coffee Day and Vintage Display in aid of Cancer Treatment at CUH takes place at Frank and Valerie Jennings’ garden, Cashel Beg, Enniskeane, on the main Bandon-Clonakilty road on Sunday June 15 from 10a.m to 8pm.
