College bliss

JUST a few days to go before the Leaving Cert results are out and then the work begins to organise your student leaving for college.

If only it were as simple as waving them off with a suitcase and laptop, but there’s quite an extensive list of things they will need to supplement the basic furniture provided in college halls of residence or in rented accommodation.

Start with the bedroom and make sure your student has two pillows and two sets of bed linen in a neutral colour or pattern. Add a mattress cover, and if you can stretch to it, a mattress topper to add some comfort to what might be a previously used bed. Include two quilts for extra warmth in winter, and a bedside lamp with spare bulbs and an extension cable. The lamp can double up as a desk lamp.
