HAVING had over three weeks of fine weather in the last couple of months, and the promise of more to follow, I think 2013 qualifies as a ‘good summer’ in Irish terms.

Sunshine is a friend to all of us, making the world a nicer place; people are more pleasant, getting out of bed in the morning is less intimidating, you can leave the laundry drying outside as you leave the house for the day, and of course sunshine is essential for our gardens to perform better and flower with more enthusiasm.

However, with all those rays comes drought, and indeed with water charges looming it is important to examine ways to make your garden more resilient.
