Plans for a new coffee dock in Cork City have been refused by the council.

Developer Cudedge Ltd sought lodged plans in July to install a self-contained coffee unit on a site adjacent to 7 Eldred Terrace on Douglas Road.

The applicant said it was seeking permission to develop the unit for the sale of coffee and refreshments, adding that it would also include associated site works.

The bid received four objections from local residents, who raised concerns about the lack of parking to accompany the unit, as well as the fact that the applicant did not own the site in question.

'Disorderly form of development'

The council refused the plans, stating that the proposed development would endanger public safety by reason of traffic hazard and would constitute a “disorderly form of development” which would negatively impact the character of the area.

Meanwhile, a Cork rowing club has secured planning permission to renovate its grounds from the county council.

Passage West Rowing Club lodged plans to demolish an existing boat house and remove two porta cabins to make way for the construction of a new, two-storey house.

The development was supported by one local councillor, who said it was a "major step" in the right direction for an ever-growing and expanding town like Passage West.

The new building will incorporate two balcony areas, internal boat storage, external storage areas, as well as associated site works.
