Plans for almost 200 apartments in Cork approved
The site is in Mahon next to Telus International Ireland, formerly known as Voxpro.
Plans for almost 200 apartments in Mahon, Cork have been approved after the conclusion of an appeals process.
The development is located on land next to the Cork headquarters of the Canadian multinational Telus International, which had appealed the decision by Cork City Council to approve the scheme.
Clyde Real Estate had been granted permission to build 190 apartments on a site on Loughmahon Link Road.
This was appealed by Telus, which raised concerns about the impact the new homes would have on traffic congestion in the area.
It noted that staff would need to re-route their commute via St Michael's Drive, which could double the time taken to get to and from the office.
Clyde Real Estate had initially sought permission to build three blocks, with some 204 apartments in total.
This was scaled back by An Bord Pleanála to 190, which ruled that no more than 24 apartments should be located on a single floor.
In its ruling, the board said the development would be acceptable. It also raised no issues with traffic congestion or pedestrian safety.
Meanwhile, a planning application has been lodged seeking permission for the development of two apartment blocks containing some 18 apartments in Cork city.
Bellmount Developments Ltd has submitted plans for works on 40 to 41 Popes Quay, 2 Ferry Lane and 1 Ferry Lane, all located at Popes Quay in Cork.
The plan involves the demolition and removal of the existing buildings to facilitate the construction of two apartment blocks, which would range in height from three to six storeys.
The apartments would include a studio, nine one- bed apartments, and eight two- beds, as well as a ground floor retail or cafe unit.
Elsewhere, the ISPCA has been granted permission for works at its equine rescue centre in Mallow, Co Cork.
Its proposed works include a detached kennel structure, which incorporates 20 kennels, two treatment rooms, a laundry room, a kitchen, storage rooms, and toilets.
