An east Cork 1800s cottage has had a thoroughly modern and spacious makeover, writes
At the €325,000 price mark in east Cork’s pretty coastal hamlet of Guileen, auctioneer Adrianna Hegarty has had chalk and cheese property offers, on originally old properties, ones which have had very different makeover styles.
Ms Hegarty has just recently closed out the sale of a very large redone thatched cottage, with a 300-year history, and long local roots. She sold the extended, high-end 2,450 sq ft labour of love near Guileen’s beach for a couple who came back to Ireland and created their own mini-masterpiece.
That thatched home sold for €325,000, to an Irish buyer back from Australia and his US-born wife who were utterly charmed by it, and prepared to accept the future maintenance needs of a sizeable thatch roof with dormers (it had been on in 2017 with a city-based agency, then priced at €395,000, and it featured extensively here at the time.)
Now, that €325k mark is the same price level that Midleton-based Hegarty Properties float this latest coastal Guileen market arrival a: in its own makeover, it underwent a very different journey and treatment.
Originally dating to the 1800s, the detached gable-fronted cottage has instead gone contemporary in look and feel, with added on flat roofed extensions, with feature, floor-to-ceiling corner window, with air to water heating, partly delivered underfloor.
