Former Skibbereen schoolhouse and nursing home for €350k

Currently on the market at Church Cross, just outside Skibbereen, is a property formerly better known as the ‘Olde School House’.

It had more recently been converted into a nursing home, but is vacant since 2010.

The property is located around 3½ miles west of Skibbereen adjacent to the coastline at Roaringwater Bay.

Originally a Victorian school house, it was converted and significantly extended to form an 18 bedroomed nursing home.

The grounds consist of around an acre of land, laid out mainly in lawn with mature trees, a range of shrubs and hedging.

With a significant internal space of approx. 5,000 sq ft (465 sq m), the property contains 18 private bedrooms on the ground floor with two bedroomed private living accommodation overhead.

It also contains a large kitchen, several shower rooms and bathrooms as well as a range of reception rooms.

Seán Carmody of agent Charles McCarthy, says the property is built to a high standard, describing it as ‘in excellent condition throughout with fire alarms, three-phase power and central heating.’

As it was a fully equipped nursing home the fittings are of a high standard and all bedrooms are fitted with a wash hand basin and TV access point.

Carmody says it is located along the N71 which is part of the Wild Atlantic Way.

He comments that due to its operation as a nursing home it is quite well equipped for commercial use. In his opinion it could serve as a hostel, a guesthouse, a treatment centre.

The asking price is €350,000. Further information is available by contacting 028-21533.
