Family home in Maryborough Hill, Cork priced at €545,000

Time to saddle up: Saddlefield is back up for the taking. An imaginatively recreated and extended original cottage, on 0.6 of an acre at the top of Cork’s Maryborough Hill, this family home last came to market in the first half of 2013, guiding €379,000.

Then, it got over 75 viewings via estate agent Jeremy Murphy, impressive for the slump year that was still in it, and sold for by the end of ’13 for over €440,000 after lots of bidding (curiously, the Price Register lists it as a 2015 sale, but it had indeed transacted two years earlier.)

The purchasers are back on the move, and the quirky and characterful Saddlefield is new to the 2018 market with the same selling agent. Now, though, Jeremy Murphy guides at€545,000, and has been busy once more with an instant demand for viewings.

Key attractions are detached status, its 0.6 of an acre with large south-facing rear garden, and some 2,400 sq ft of living and sleeping space, with two of its four bedrooms en suite.

There’s a mix of original cottage style rooms and more open modern add-ons, and there’s a mezzanine above the bright double-height kitchen to the back of this accommodating family home.

Its condition is excellent, there’s a wood-burning stove, new condenser boiler, and it has planning for more add-on space, should any new owners feel the need to go even larger.

VERDICT: Nicely individual, on the outskirts of Douglas, and likely to have a wide trading-up appeal for families living in an estate, keen for more privacy, and room to roam.
